Professional Training: Every Pillar To Post home inspector is trained in the classroom and in the field. You can have confidence in the fact that all Pillar To Post inspectors are required to continually upgrade their skills and to keep current with new technologies and professional standards.
For many years Pennsylvania had no licensing requirements for home inspectors, opening up the industry to anyone with a flashlight and a clipboard to call themselves a home inspector. In 2001, Act 114 was passed to protect the public. Act 114 does set minimum standards for Pa. home inspectors, but there are still huge differences in each inspector’s qualifications. Before hiring an inspector, be sure you ask about their training and certifications!
Inspectors from the Greg Newman Team exceed PA training and continuing education requirements! All of our inspectors have passed a national home inspector exam and maintain national home inspector certification through the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI®) and/or the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (Internachi®). To ensure consistent quality, all of the inspectors on our team complete a one year apprenticeship under an ASHI® certified inspector, before they begin inspecting independently. Consistent training means each inspector delivers the same great experience, including a clean and professional appearance, a thorough and accurate inspection, and an easy-to-read inspection report
Additionally, they have completed training and hold certifications through:
- Pennsylvania Septage Management Association (PSMA) advanced inspector training, PSMA certified
- North American Deck and Railing Association (NADRA) Deck Evaluation certified
- PA Department of Environmental Protection Radon Testing Firm
- PA Department of Agriculture Registered Pesticide Application Technician (wood destroying organism inspection certification)
- Exterior Design Institute (EDI) Certified Inspector for Eiffs, Dryvit, Stucco inspections
Greg Newman
Having lived in the Lehigh Valley for the past 35 years, Greg is deeply rooted and invested in the communities in which he works. Serving in the U.S. Navy in engineering rates for over twenty-one years, Greg gained both technical knowledge and leadership skills. He learned the importance of discipline, dedication, honesty, hard work and good communication – the same qualities he has incorporated into his own business today.
After retiring from the military, Greg worked as a national start-up facilities director for a Fortune 500 company. In that role, he was responsible for inspection and planned maintenance for millions of square feet of commercial property including research facilities, hospitals, and technical and manufacturing firms from Boston to Chicago to San Francisco. As much as he loved the inspection and facilities work, Greg wanted to get away from the travel. So, in 2012, he hung up his airline miles and opened his Pillar to Post franchise. It was an opportunity to take the skillset that he had honed over a thirty-year career, and put it to use in his own small business. His only regret……..that he didn’t do it sooner!
In his first year of business, Greg was selected Rookie of the Year for the Pillar to Post franchise system! Since 2012, Greg and his team have won numerous Pinnacle, sales and excellence awards through Pillar to Post. More importantly, they have provided over 7500 home inspections to highly satisfied Lehigh Valley homeowners!
Greg is an ASHI® Certified Inspector through the American Society of Home Inspectors and a member of the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI®). He is a sponsor and affiliate member of the Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors (GLVR) and the Reading-Berks Association of Realtors (R-BAR).
Greg and his wife of 37 years, Tracy (also a member of the Pillar to Post team!), live in Nazareth, PA, where they have raised three grown sons. He cherishes spending time with his grand-daughter, likes riding his Harley, and enjoys traveling to Florida whenever his schedule permits.
Kevin Palmer
Kevin is an integral part of the Greg Newman Team of Pillar to Post, joining the team in 2014. Before becoming a professional home inspector, Kevin worked in construction and as a REALTOR®. He maintains his real estate license so that he may occasionally help his parents who both enjoy successful careers as REALTORs. His years of experience in construction and real estate have given him a wealth of knowledge as well as an overall understanding of the entire home selling/buying process.
Kevin loves to educate home buyers about the different components in their prospective new home. He also enjoys the flexibility and diversity found in professional home inspection career.
Kevin is an ASHI® Certified Home Inspector through the American Society of Home Inspectors and a member of the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI®). Brian Seals
Since 2016, Brian has been an indispensable member of the Greg Newman Team of Pillar to Post. He is pleased to provide exceptional home inspections throughout the Lehigh Valley.
Before becoming a professional home inspector, Brian worked for his family’s firm, Labrador Construction, which specialized in drilling and blasting. Not only did he learn the technical aspects of the work in his family’s business, Brian absorbed the many untold lessons of dedication, hard work, and communication necessary to run a successful small business.
Brian is exceptionally detail oriented. That eye for detail, small business history, and customer service orientation blend seamlessly with the Greg Newman Team’s philosophy of giving our clients the best home inspection experience in the area.

He and his family enjoy traveling, especially to southern beaches and Walt Disney World.
Ed Contessa
Since joining The Greg Newman Team in 2018, Eddie has become a dynamic inspector for the Greg Newman Team, providing superior home inspections throughout Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton and Schuylkill Counties.
Before Pillar to Post, Ed trained as a Realtor® for a local real estate firm. While he liked the idea of working in real estate, he found that real estate sales just wasn’t for him. One of his Realtor® colleagues facilitated a meeting between Greg and Ed, and the rest is history! Greg immediately recognized that Ed’s strong customer service background would make him a valuable asset to the team. Eddie consistently puts the needs of his clients first.
Ed graduated from New Home Inspector Training at the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI®) School, also known as ASHI Boot Camp! Ed is an ASHI® Certified Home Inspector through the American Society of Home Inspectors and a member of the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI®). He’s an enthusiastic supporter of Lehigh Valley’s minor league hockey team, the Phantoms.
